All of our threatened species assessment methods are devised to ensure the maximum integration and participation of local communities. In fact, our dugong rapid assessment methodology has been widely adopted by the Convention on Migratory Species for implementation on a global scale.
Following recent concern about the ‘shifting baselines’ phenomenon in the global marine environment, we have assessed the historical decline and exploitation of sea turtles in Mauritius.
Currently in Madagascar, we are mapping critical nesting sites for threatened green and hawksbill turtles and evaluating human threats to these species.
